Tuesday, July 29, 1997 PCComplete Announces Custom PC LinesPleasant Ridge, MI -- PCComplete Corporate Sales announced today four new lines of custom assembled personal computers. The new lines range from low-end computers (ideal for the home or office) through the high-end machines (including separate lines for multimedia computers and servers) with prices starting under $625. Any of these machines are built to the custom request of their customer to provide the buyer with the best machine to fit their needs and budget.
PCComplete refers to these lines as "Series". Each series is named and serves general application environments:
Starting with the Aprato Series, each step up takes advantage of technology which might not be available on the lower end models. All of the MediaMachine Series takes advantage of the new MMX Technology from Intel Corporation. Traba Series machines are designed specifically for Windows NT 4.0 (though any of the computers will run Windows 3.x or Windows 95). The Pasillo Series is designed to perform file and printer sharing or intranet servers. For those who only need the standard office functions (spreadsheet, database, and word processing), the Aprato Series serves as a low cost, high powered desktop computer. "These new 'Series' machines will satisfy most users needs" said Darryl Wattenberg, Director of Marketing for PCComplete. "These systems are based on the most common requests from our clients. Most of our customers have already discovered the tremendous benefits of buying the custom built systems. I've heard several complaints from the corporate buyers about the pre-built systems that have all the bundled hardware and software that they don't need or want. They don't want to spend the extra money on all those 'toys' and the MIS folks don't want the headache of supporting it." Darryl continued "We've had some orders come through where our customers have replaced their brand name systems with the PCComplete custom machines and enjoyed huge price savings...[and] better, more reliable hardware." Fred Hodge, Service Manager for PCComplete, continued to discuss the service advantages by saying that the custom built machines are much easier to repair. "We've had customers complain about the service times on their computers purchased mail-order or through super stores. The problem with almost all of those systems is that they need special parts direct from their manufacture. These custom machine use all standard parts. When a repair comes in before noon, it's normally back to the customer by five that night." He continued by boasting the advantage of non-bundled software. "When the customer has a software problem, they generally have to restore from the CD that came with their computer, replacing anything they've change. The custom machines have optional software which can be installed individually, without replacing everything else on the drive." Darryl Wattenberg expanded "the optional software is generally more powerful than anything that the pre-built machines come with, and it's cheaper than buying it off the shelf. The buyer has the price benefit of the bundled software, but none of the usual hassle." PCComplete's president, Marshall Miller, summed it up up by saying "The days of the proprietary computers are numbered." Interested parties have several ways to contact PCComplete. PCComplete is open for calls from 9:00am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday at 248/545-4211. Internet e-mail is generally answered within one business day at "pcc@pccomplete.com".
